Efficient use of energy

By investing in new techniques, we have succeeded in drastically minimizing energy consumption per unit of product. In order to achieve further sustainability, Zwingrow started a project in 2011 for the extraction of geothermal energy. This has been realized since June 2012 and Zwingrow runs sustainably on geothermal energy with full satisfaction.

More information about the geothermal project can be found on the website of

Green Well Westland.

Zwingrow uses a CHP installation (Heat/Power Coupling) at all locations. After combustion of gas, a CHP installation supplies electricity as well as heat and CO2 that are necessary for the growth of the crop.

By using heat buffers, the heat can be used at the right time and the CO2 can be used during the day. The electricity is returned to the grid.

Gas used by CHP installations is used much more efficiently than at a power station. The cooling water from the CHP is used entirely for heating the greenhouse and is not destroyed as is the case with power stations.

Zwingrow aims to use as little energy as possible per unit of product. In the winter period, a double energy screen is therefore used.
